If you can step into your child's mind and remember how you once saw and experienced things, you can return to seeing all of the wonder that is in the world, which can help you rediscover joy. Image by Sarah Richter from Pixabay

Have you ever truly paid attention to the stories you tell yourself and your world about your life? How you think about things and how you communicate them with others has a profound effect on your experience of reality.
For example, suppose you have been having some trouble sleeping. You spend a lot of time worrying whether you will sleep well that night, and you tell people, "I don't know why, but I just don't sleep well." As try to go to sleep, you lie there and worry about whether you will be able to. Then, if something wakes you in the middle of the night, your first thought is, "Now I'll never get back to sleep." Your thoughts are creating your sleep situation. The more attention and belief you give to the thought, "I don't sleep well," the more it becomes your experience. What if you changed your story? What if, instead, every time you caught yourself thinking about your poor sleep, you changed your thought to, "I sleep peacefully and wake up refreshed?" What if, instead of talking to others about how poorly you sleep, you found other positive things to talk about? What if, as you were drifting off to sleep, you affirmed, "I sleep peacefully and awake rested and refreshed," and then paid attention to all of the positive things in that moment: you are warm, you are comfortable, your pillow supports you well, etc. Then, if something did wake you in the middle of the night, what if you restated your affirmation and again paid attention to the positives of the moment? Chances are, you would sleep better. I speak from experience. This is what I did when I was struggling with regular insomnia. Nothing changed except the story I told myself about sleep, but the effects were profound. Pay attention to the story you tell. With every story, you can tell it from a negative standpoint discussing what you don't want, or you can tell about it from a positive standpoint about the things that are good. Changing your point of view from positive to negative and focusing on what you want instead of what you don't want can make a world of difference. Image by pasja1000 from Pixabay We encounter people all the time who seem broken. Perhaps they are sad or traumatized from their experiences. Perhaps they don't seem like nice people because their behavior is cruel or unkind. Perhaps they have physical or mental illnesses that seem unfixable. Perhaps they live in circumstances we perceive as tragic. It is human nature to feel some way about people in these types of situations: to see them as unfortunate...to see them as being broken.
On a soul level, no one is ever broken. No soul needs fixing. When we look at another in sympathy, sadness, anger, or with some other negative emotion, we contribute to the vibration that is keeping them in that space. We don't do it with bad intentions; it's human nature to empathize or feel a certain way when we see another in a situation we wouldn't wish for ourselves. However, in our embodied state, like energy attracts like energy. So when the focus is on the negativity of a situation, we contribute to the conditions that perpetuate that energy. When we see someone as broken, and when they see themselves as broken, the universe continues to supply that energy of brokenness until a light enters that can turn things around. There needs to be an energy of non-brokenness in order for that person to find a new way. True compassion involves holding energy of wholeness and healing for someone who appears broken. Even if they can't find that light for themselves in this moment, if you take the time to see them as whole, healed, kind, joyful, and empowered, then you can supply the light that may start to attract healing energy in that person's life. I believe in holding that space for someone--regardless of what they appear to be experiencing right now--until they are once again able to hold it for themselves. Healing can happen in an instant. Nobody is ever stuck in a pattern of belief or behavior. There is no person and no place in the universe where there exists a total absence of light. No soul is ever broken; it is only the body that houses that soul that is stuck in a place where they've forgotten about the light. And if I know someone cannot find light for themselves in this moment, then the greatest gift I can offer is to hold their light for them until they are ready to take it up for themselves again. On a soul level, everyone is whole, everyone is empowered, and everyone is bathed in light. When someone can't find the light for themselves, hold it for them. See the highest version of the person in pain. See their light and reflect it to them whenever you have the opportunity so that when they're ready, they can take it up for themselves once again. That is the true essence of compassion. Image by Stas Sutulo from Pixabay Virtually everyone has a supply of past hurts- both major and minor - stored away and ready to rise to the surface. As we explore this pain over and over again, however, we allow ourselves to feel hurt once again as we relive it. This creates a vibration that attracts similar energy and perpetuates our pain. I'm not suggesting you ignore what happened to you. Instead, I'm suggesting you transform it into a source of strength. You survived, and you can thrive. Don't allow anyone to steal your power from you, regardless of how much they hurt you. You are a superhero, and you have the power to change not only your experience, but the entire universe through your rising vibration. Use your pain to fuel your power. Rise stronger than ever to live the beautiful and vibrant life only you can create. Image by deepak meena from Pixabay Creating involves emotion and directed attention to that which you want. This is true regardless of whether you are creating something you want or something you don't want. So, when your thoughts are focused on something negative (for example: How am I going to pay my bills? or My health is so poor! I'm sick!) and there is emotion behind those thoughts, you will attract and create more of the situation you don't want.
Setting a positive intention can help, but if you continue to think about these negative things, you send confusing signals to the universe about that which you desire. So, if you are setting the intention, "I choose to be vibrantly healthy," but you continuously think about how sick you are, or if you set the intention, "I am financially prosperous," but continue to worry about how your bills will be paid, then your negative thoughts and focus are overriding (or at the very least cancelling) your positive intention. When everything is going great and you're feeling positive, it seems pretty easy to set intention and focus positive thought and emotion to create, but what do you do when something negative happens or you are in a negative place? How do you direct positive emotion and thoughts when you're not feeling positive? How do you turn a situation around when what you perceive as your reality (being sick, being unable to pay your bills, etc.) is in direct conflict to your intention? It's all about how you focus. If you continue to focus on the problem, then you are creating the energetic conditions to perpetuate the problem; you are calling it to you through your emotion and attention. To reverse this energy, focus instead on the solution. Visualize yourself with the problem solved. So instead of focusing on the belief or thought, "I am so sick - look at all the evidence pointing to how sick I am," visualize yourself as being healthy and healed. Visualize yourself as being vibrant and whole. And when the inevitable thoughts of the problem arise again, take a moment, close your eyes, cancel that thought, and visualize the solution. Do this for just a moment every time the negative thought arises. So when the thought arises, "I can't pay my bills," for instance, every time you catch yourself worrying about how you are going to pay your bills or thinking something along the lines of, "I don't have the money for this," stop and briefly visualize yourself easily paying your bills or with a bank account full of cash (or both). Shift your focus from problem to solution, and do it consistently. When you combine this with your intention, you can begin to create that which you want instead of that which you don't. Image by Jackson David from Pixabay Every moment we choose to re-create something in our lives, we are living in the past because we are choosing the creation of history instead of creating something anew. What does this mean exactly? What are the labels you've applied to yourself or others over the years? All labels are constructs of the past. Every time you re-apply that label, you are giving voice to the creations of history instead of being open to what the present might bring. How do you label yourself? How do you label others? Are those labels even true in this present moment? How do you know with absolute certainty they are true? Here's an example. One of my current labels is, "I am an author," and while objectively given the books I have written, that may be true, the actual truth is that in the past I have been an author. And, there's a darn good chance I may choose to be an author again, as I am one who writes. However, if when people say, "Tell me what you do, Karen," I reply, "I am an author," the universe will provide me with that experience over and over again. And that's not necessarily a "bad" thing. I love being one who writes, and frequently that is how I choose my expression. But by labeling myself "author," I am leaving out so much more. I am not that label, and I don't wish to limit myself because I am also one who loves, one who laughs, one who dances, one who smiles, one who is in joy, one who brings comfort, one who learns, and so many more expressions, and I don't wish to choose one, two, or even ten as my self-definition because I wish to be open to every expression of my Divinity embodied. Here's another label: "I am sick." While people have certainly been sick even a moment ago, remember this: applying that label can perpetuate the sickness. Miracles happen. People are spontaneously healed. Or perhaps what appears as spontaneous healing is actually no longer choosing the label, "I am sick." While you were sick a moment ago, maybe in this moment you are not. As a statement of Divine expression, perhaps a different choice than the label of sickness would be, "I am one who chooses expression in wellness." Here's another: "I am too fat." Hit home? Here's a question. How do you know you are "too fat?" Perhaps you are the perfect size your body needs to be at this moment. In fact, I'd go farther and suggest it is impossible to be "too fat" because you are exactly as fat as you are, and I am exactly as fat as I am. These bodies are how Divinity is expressing itself through us right now, and the Divine (or God if you wish) makes no mistakes. Therefore, you are not only not, "too fat," but you are perfect. And with the "too fat" label, you are judging and disowning something created as an expression of Divinity. In rejecting yourself, you are rejecting the Divine. A different choice of self-awareness may be, "I am one who chooses my Divine expression in the physical as a perfect state of health for me." Another: "He is an awful human being." It's easy to label others, yeah? However, the judgment implied in the label suggests you truly know something about him, and you may think you, indeed, do. But you don't. You aren't him; you aren't walking his path. You don't know the reason he has made the choices he has or understand why he has chosen this type of expression. If you think you do understand these things, it is still just conjecture. All you know are moments of behavior you experience, and those are all in the past (even if they only happened 30 seconds ago). Instead of applying labels, perhaps you may wish to see him as an expression of the Divine and realize he can create himself anew, as well, and by seeing him as the Divine aspect of himself instead of his past behaviors, you can help raise his vibration in a way that benefits not only him, not only you, but the entire universe, as well. Do your labels serve you? If they don't, then remove the label and be open to what can be instead of what once was. There's only one thing we truly know about everyone and everything we encounter in this moment: It is an expression of the Divine. It is the Divine seeking to express itself through embodied human forms and terrestrial events. Everything else we think we know is conjecture based on history. It's easy to judge people and events, but judgment a) may not be true (and most likely are not); and b) gets us stuck in the lower vibrations of what was instead of working together to raise the vibration to what truly is. If we ever wish to rise out of the vibrations that are manifesting currently in our personal lives and on our planet, we need to see things with fresh eyes. You cannot end war with more war. You cannot end hate with judgment. You cannot fix a broken economic system with anger. You cannot cure poverty with furious rhetoric. Perhaps, then, it is time to try something different and view everything with love. This is where the answers lie - in love and not in history. If we see everything as its highest expression and realize everyone and everything is an expression of the Divine, then the next step is to see our Oneness with those events and those things. And the more people who realize they are One with everyone and everything, the more people set aside an agenda of selfishness and instead join a vibration of selflessness that allows the One that we are to continue to move to higher and higher expressions of the Divine.
